The American artist Georgia O'Keeffe used the medium of watercolor at the beginning of her career to create an abstract art that captures pure images symbolic of the order, harmony, and processes of nature. Made in Canyon, Texas, this expressive watercolor is the most refined of a series of ten compositions of the same subject. Its bands of colors depict light and the natural world by radically abstracting and simplifying it.
